Interview about the quality of flooring
How can high quality and low price of modular PVC floor coverings get on well?
“YugSpetsZaschchita” company defines itself as the manufacturer of modular floor coverings at favorable price. It is commonly known that not only price is relevant when you buy finishing materials, but the quality of the floor coverings is also important. Period and quality of operation directly influence over the final outlays.
Is it possible to save favorable price and good quality at the same time and how these characteristics are connected? We discuss it with Kristina Dolgosheina, the Director of Business Development of “YugSpetsZaschchita” Ltd.
- Tell us, which major factors influence the quality of PVC floor coverings?
There are two main factors — raw material and the production equipment.
We use polyvinylchloride plasticized non-flammable compound for production of PVC floor coverings. What does it mean for our consumer? The term “compound” means the composition, mixture of components according to fixed formula, i.e. polyvinylchloride is combined with components, responsible for quality of floor coverings. “Plasticized” means that plastic compound is added to the raw material and it makes PVC more elastic, it is easily processed during injection molding. In other words, when we produce the tile the material spreads equally on the mold and finished product does not have any spots and stains on the area of injection.
For the production of floor coverings we use only painted raw material. It exclude such problem as “off-shade” — when tiles have different shades of color that happens when colorless plastic compound is mixed with paint during injection molding process.
The production equipment is also very important.
We use only new machinery that issued after 2012.
- Tell us about production process, which moments influence the quality of products?
During the producing of the module the PVC plastic compound is melted till the form of paste and injected into the mold. The standard melting point of PVC is 190 С, but depending on the rigidity of raw material it can vary from 150 to 200 С. The melting point data is given in set of documents for the raw material.

The developed relief of our mold helps the plastic compound to spread equally over the whole surface of it. It means that the tile has identical thickness over the entire area. After the injection the raw material is left under the pressure of 30 BAR. The period of it varies from 5 to 50 seconds depending on the raw material characteristics.Then tile is left in the mold for 40 seconds, it is time for cooling and getting the final shape. We strictly observe these rules and they helps us to produce qualified products.
- What does help you to keep prices at such low level?
We try to minimize outlays, e.g. we keep producing high quality products. We try to reduce the reject rate and “shade-off”, because reprocessing makes the price of product higher.
We also constantly expand our partnership network and we increase production.
- Which documents regulate the production process of modular floor covering?
We produce modular floor covering based on the management quality system ISO 9001:2008.
Modular PVC floor coverings and rubber floor coverings “TRANSFORMER” and “UNIDOR” are made according to ISO standard.

- Tell us about fire danger ratings of «YgSpetsZaschita» production.
- Modular covering “SOLD” has fire safety class КМ-2 with characteristics Г1, В1, Д3, РП1, Т2. It means that the tile can be used in all types of premises, including hotels, health care and children institutions and other places with capacity more than 800 people.
Rubber tiles “TRANSFORMER” and “UNIDOR” has the flammability level КМ-5. The advantages of such tiles are: heat and frost resistance, it can be used outside and you can install it directly on the open ground. Rubber floors are the best floors for parking areas, industrial workshops and automobile repair shops.
- How does «YgSpetsZaschita» monitor the quality of production?
- We have Quality Control Department (QCD), each 4 tiles out of 20 tiles are tested for jointing.
Moreover, each lot of modular floor covering “SOLD” is tested for the stated characteristics according to TS. Such qualities as length, width, thickness, size of corner, firmness of the product have obligatory test control.
- What can you recommend to do in order to define the quality of product?
- If you choose modular floor covering or when you receive the order, you must check the quality of the product before installation. It is easier to resolve all the issues with supplier before you start installation of covering.
In order to check the quality of dyeing, cut slightly the tile (during installation you can hide the cut under the skirting board). The tile must have uniform color through entire thickness. Pale white strips indicate bad quality of raw material and the product. You must also try to joint two tiles. Pay especial attention to the jointing of tiles of different color. The texture of the surface must be clear, blurred texture indicates violation of molding process technology.
Bend the covering; good quality tile does not have cracks on the place of bending.
